Little Axe Parents, Guardians, and Students,

Thank you for your patience and understanding as we continue to navigate this time of the pandemic. Thanks to your cooperation, the transition to an A/B schedule has been successful and has allowed us to continue in-person instruction although it is on a limited basis. We will continue to follow the A/B schedule as previously announced. We continue to have a high number of staff members who are being affected by the virus and if it were not for the A/B schedule, would not be able to hold school at this time. We are aware of the recent statement by Governor Stitt regarding quarantine protocol. This communication is to inform you that for the time being until further information is available, we will continue to follow the recommendations of the CDC regarding mask wearing, social distancing, and quarantining as recommended by the CDC and Cleveland County Health Department.

Currently, there are two quarantine options for those individuals at Little Axe Public Schools who have been considered exposed to an individual who is COVID-19 positive.  These options were effective beginning December 2, 2020.

7-day Quarantine | Quarantine can end after Day 7 if a diagnostic specimen tests negative and if no symptoms were reported during daily monitoring. The specimen may be collected and tested within 48 hours before the time of planned quarantine discontinuation, but quarantine cannot be discontinued earlier than after Day 7.  This means that someone that tests negative at day 5 or after must remain in quarantine through Day 7, but are then released without requiring an additional negative test.

10-Day Quarantine | Quarantine can end after Day 10 without testing and if no symptoms have been reported during daily monitoring.

Please contact your medical provider if your child experiences COVID related symptoms such as, but not limited to: running a fever, sore throat, persistent cough, loss of smell or taste, or shortness of breath.  Additionally, if you are concerned that your child has recently been exposed to COVID-19, at school or away from school, please keep them at home until they have finished their mandated quarantine. Do not send students with symptoms to school. They will be able to complete their work virtually.

As a reminder, Little Axe Public Schools require properly worn masks and temperature screenings for all individuals entering all buildings. Hand sanitizing stations are available in every classroom and office.  Disinfectant is provided in every room for spot cleaning. Every building is disinfected twice per week, on Tuesdays and Thursdays, or as needed, with a commercial-grade product designed to be effective for up to two weeks; and our buses have been disinfected after each route (4 times daily).

Thank you for your patience, support, and understanding. If I can be of assistance, please do not hesitate to contact me at jay.thomas@littleaxeps.org.
