Frank Smith LAHS Baseball Hiring

8/22/25

Little Axe High School is happy to announce the hiring of Frank Smith as its head baseball coach.  Originally from Washington State, Coach Smith has built his career on a simple but powerful philosophy: develop the player, strengthen the program, and build a culture where athletes thrive on and off the field.

During his tenure as Head Baseball Coach at Eastlake High School in Sammamish, WA (2016–2024), Coach Smith established Eastlake as a perennial powerhouse in Washington baseball. Under his leadership, the Wolves:

Earned multiple District 1 & 2 Championships (2022, 2023, 2024)

Made five state tournament quarterfinal appearances (2019, 2022, 2023, 2024)

Captured the 2023 WIAA 4A State Championship

Produced over 100 collegiate athletes and several professional drafted MLB players

His coaching excellence has been recognized with numerous honors, including:

Washington State Coach of the Year (2023)

Kingco Coach of the Year (2015, 2019, 2023, 2024)

Beyond wins and accolades, Coach Smith is passionate about nurturing players’ growth, preparing them for the next level, and building a program that the school and community can take pride in. He is also the founder of FM Sports, a player development organization providing private instruction, clinics, and mentorship for athletes pursuing collegiate opportunities.

Coach Smith holds a B.A. in History and Physical Education from Washington State University and is NFHS Certified, with additional certifications in CPR/First Aid, player development, scouting, and strength and conditioning for baseball.

Recently relocating to Oklahoma to be closer to family, Coach Smith and his wife, Kris—who teaches 3rd grade at Robin Hill Public School—are excited to make a long-term home in the area. While he will continue to manage FM Sports remotely, his heart and focus are on building a strong future for Little Axe Baseball.

Coach Smith shares:

“I am honored to join the Little Axe community and lead this baseball program into its next chapter. My goal is to create a culture that emphasizes hard work, accountability, and teamwork—while also celebrating the joy of the game. I look forward to partnering with parents, staff, and the booster club to help our athletes reach their fullest potential, both on the field and in life.”
